Investing seems quite a reasonable idea and it doesn’t require much of an effort. One question that will inevitably pop up in our heads is, how to invest so that we’re not pouring money down the drain?
There’s a myriad of investment options to choose from, however, some of them are quite risky. From buying shares or stocking up on cryptocurrencies to spread betting and land banking. Which one would you pick? Our advice is...invest in your programming skills! Why? Education is THE best investment out there, (you won’t get stress-induced grey hair after realising your shares went down 80% in value, yikes!).
Programming gives you flexible career options, opening the door into the more lucrative world where you can ditch the idea of 9 to 5 shifts. Once you master the art of coding, you can work in your PJs from the comforts of your own home, in any location in the world!... Well, if that’s your thing ;)
Programming vs Investing in the Bank
If you’re still not convinced, let’s have a look at some standard options. Let’s start with trusting the Bank, is it a safe bet? Banks appear to us as powerful institutions, however, the investment options they offer are quite limited. We can open savings accounts or go for so-called certificates of deposit. The biggest no-no with saving accounts is, the interest rates are usually considerably low and with certificates of deposit, you can’t touch your money for a fixed period of time, which is not ideal. Another downside is, losing value in a recession. Simply put, the value of your cash will most likely fall. Over 10 years ago the pound sterling went down 25% just before the start of the great recession.
With Programming you’re investing in your knowledge, your digital skills that will actually gain more value with time to meet the demands of ever growing IT industry. Programming will present you with countless possibilities, you can change your career, bump up your salary & work remotely.
Programming vs Buying Stock
Buying and selling stocks seems like a walk in the park, you can easily do it with your eyes closed. And here comes a problem, imagine your 3 year old accidentally pressing the button while playing with your laptop. Well, it could happen, your kid could easily trade stocks, it’s idiot-proof! You could lose your money…..in an instant.
The idea of investing in stocks is to buy and sell as much as you can. You think you’re smart because you’ve dug up some insider information on...Google. The truth is, if it’s on Google it’s common knowledge and you have no advantage whatsoever over other investors. Still seems like a smart idea to invest your money in?
You don’t want to end up at 3 am in the morning, nervously biting your nails checking the stock market every 5 seconds. If you need to get your adrenaline pumping, better get on a slingshot ride, at least you’re not going to lose gazillions of money and you can have some fun :).
Programming is much less stressful. You are in control. You decide how much time you want to devote to studying and how fast you’re going to progress. You might end up staying late, however, you know that you’ve invested in your own skills and not random shares which value can plunge any second. Besides, you’re not alone, there’s the whole online community out there that can help you out when you’re lost. Your online mentor can answer any questions you have, even the most basic ones so don’t be afraid to ask.
Programming vs Lotto!

Once you win some money in Lotto you might think, hey let’s try it again, if it worked once it’ll definitely work again! Do you know the likelihood of hitting that 6 digit jackpot? The probability of hitting the jackpot in Lotto is 1 in 14 million… no kidding.
